Guru’s Message Continues to Inspire Global Malayalee Community

The Vice-President of India, C. P. Radhakrishnan, released the book “The Sage who Reimagined Hinduism: The Life, Lessons and Legacy of Sree Narayana Guru” by Shashi Tharoor at the India International Centre.

Addressing the gathering, the Vice-President said documenting the lives of India’s spiritual reformers is essential to safeguarding the nation’s civilisational memory—especially for younger generations living abroad. He described Sree Narayana Guru as a visionary who challenged caste discrimination and social injustice through wisdom, compassion, and education.

Recalling the Guru’s timeless message – “One Caste, One Religion, One God for humankind” – the Vice-President said its relevance is deeply felt among the global Malayalee diaspora, including in the UK, where Guru’s ideals of equality, dignity, and social harmony continue to guide community life.

Quoting Narendra Modi, he noted that Sree Narayana Guru’s teachings remain a roadmap for social justice and inclusive development. He also highlighted the enduring role of the Sree Narayana Dharma Paripalana (SNDP) Yogam, founded in 1903, in advancing education and social empowerment.

Commending Dr. Tharoor, the Vice-President said the book helps take India’s spiritual heritage to a global audience, enabling Malayalees abroad to reconnect with the reform movements that shaped Kerala’s modern identity.

Among those present were Dr. Tharoor, publisher David Davidar of Aleph Book Company, scholars, and distinguished guests.
