Royal Mail to hire 33,000 temps this year to help with online Christmas parcels

Royal Mail is set to hire 33,000 temporary workers, as the company anticipates a rush of online orders for Christmas. If you are looking for some seasonal work at Christmas or flexible work throughout the year, they would like to hear from you.

Royal mail normally hires 20,000 temps for the Christmas period.  Because of the boom in online shopping, mainly driven by the COVID-19 pandemic, further 13,000 workers are required during the Christmas period. The extra staff will be placed at sorting offices, delivery vans and data centres.

The parcel boom is positive news for the Royal Mail and the company is going to start picking up parcels from people’s homes. The firm is aiming to capitalise on the rising trend by charging 72p per parcel collection on top of standard postage costs.
