A distinguished gathering of community leaders, politicians, and well-wishers came together in West London to celebrate a proud and historic milestone, the appointment of Uday Nagaraju to the UK’s House of Lords. Now formally known as Lord Nagaraju of Bloomsbury, his elevation marks yet another significant achievement for the British Indian community.
His appointment as a Life Peer, conferred by the King on the recommendation of Prime Minister Keir Starmer, is widely seen as recognition of his contributions to public service, policy leadership, and technology.
The celebratory luncheon, hosted by Lord Nagaraju, was held on Saturday, 14 March 2026 at Biryani Nation Grand. The event brought together a vibrant cross-section of the Indian diaspora, with attendees from Telugu, Gujarati, Punjabi, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalee communities, reflecting the diversity and unity of the wider Indian-origin population in the UK.
Among those present were prominent political figures including Seema Malhotra, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State (Minister for Equalities) and Minister for the Indo-Pacific, and Virendra Sharma, former Member of Parliament for Ealing Southall.
The event was also attended by several councillors from across London, including Telugu-origin councillors Prabhakar Kaza and Councillor Aditya Kaza, along with other community representatives, reflecting the strong grassroots support and pride within the diaspora.

In her address, Seema Malhotra MP spoke warmly of her longstanding association with Lord Nagaraju, highlighting his dedication and valuable contributions to the Labour Party. She praised his professional expertise as an IT specialist, particularly noting his deep knowledge and forward-thinking work in the field of artificial intelligence. She emphasised that his experience in AI and technology would bring meaningful insight to legislative discussions, especially in an era increasingly shaped by digital innovation.
Virendra Sharma MP, a respected former parliamentarian, offered words of encouragement and guidance to the newly appointed peer. He described Lord Nagaraju as a representative of the future young, capable, and full of potential. Urging him to serve with humility and selflessness, Sharma noted that his position in the House of Lords provides a unique opportunity to contribute significantly not only to the United Kingdom but also to strengthen ties with India and support Indian business communities globally.

A particularly touching aspect of the celebration was the traditional Indian felicitation accorded to Lord Nagaraju. Several attendees came forward to congratulate him by presenting bouquets of flowers and ceremonially adorning him with a Ponnada, a gesture deeply rooted in Indian culture, symbolising honour, respect, and recognition of achievement. This added a rich cultural dimension to the event, blending British civic life with cherished Indian traditions.
