Vote for UK Malayalee Dr Agimol Pradeep in the Aster Guardians Global Nursing Award 2026

A proud moment for the UK Malayalee community and for nurses everywhere!

Dr Agimol Pradeep, a transplant specialist, researcher, educator and community changemaker based in the UK, has reached the Top 10 finalists of the prestigious Aster Guardians Global Nursing Award (AGGNA) 2026.

She was selected from a remarkable 134,000+ registrations across 214 countries and economies, following a rigorous selection process involving expert and grand jury panels.

Now, the final stage is open to public voting.

🗳️ Let us unite behind Agimol

Kerala Link UK is appealing to UK nurses, particularly our Malayalee nursing community, as well as friends, families and supporters across the UK, to cast their vote for Dr Agimol Pradeep.

This is more than an individual award. It is an opportunity to recognise the contribution of a UK-based nurse whose work has reached far beyond the hospital environment and touched the lives of patients, families, communities and healthcare professionals.

Agimol’s career spans almost three decades. As a transplant specialist and researcher, she identified a serious inequality affecting South Asian patients: the shortage of ethnically matched organ donors and the resulting difficulties faced by patients waiting for transplantation.

Determined to understand and tackle the problem, she undertook doctoral research examining the cultural, religious and social barriers surrounding organ donation among Indian, Pakistani and Bangladeshi communities. Her research subsequently contributed to wider awareness and advocacy around organ donation in the UK.

From research to real-life change

For Agimol, research was never simply about producing academic papers. She took the message into communities, working with religious leaders, community organisations and families to build trust and encourage conversations about organ and stem-cell donation.

She was also a co-founder of Upahaar, a volunteer-driven initiative focused on increasing stem-cell donor registration. According to the Aster Guardians profile, the initiative has registered more than 10,000 stem-cell donors. The work of Upahaar demonstrates what can happen when healthcare professionals combine professional knowledge with community engagement and compassion.

Agimol’s contribution has also extended into education and professional development. She serves as an Honorary Senior Lecturer, supporting the education and development of nurses and healthcare professionals, particularly in transplant care and ethical practice.

Championing internationally educated nurses

Another important part of Agimol’s work has been her advocacy for internationally educated nurses (IENs).

Many nurses who come to the UK from overseas bring considerable professional experience and skills, but can face significant barriers to returning to their profession. Agimol has campaigned for fairer opportunities for internationally trained nurses to regain their professional identity and contribute to the NHS and wider healthcare system.

Her work reflects an important message: nursing is not only about caring for individual patients; nurses can also influence policy, challenge inequalities, conduct research, educate others and transform communities.

Her achievements have already received national recognition, including the British Empire Medal (BEM) and recognition in the Queen’s Honours list.

A global award – and a UK Malayalee opportunity

The Aster Guardians Global Nursing Award was established to recognise nurses for their contribution to healthcare and humanity. The award recognises achievements across areas including patient care, nursing leadership, nursing education, social and community service, and research and innovation.

For the 2026 edition, the scale of participation has been extraordinary, with more than 134,000 registrations from 214 countries and economies. The winner is due to receive a US$250,000 award.

To have a UK-based Malayalee nurse reach the final 10 in such a global competition is itself a remarkable achievement.

Now we have an opportunity to show our support.
