The Kerala Arts and Literary Association (KALA UK) has launched an exciting opportunity for Malayalam-speaking poets residing in the UK. KALA UK is hosting a Malayalam Poetry Competition, aimed at celebrating the rich tradition of Malayalam poetry and providing a platform for poets to showcase their talent.
This competition is open exclusively to UK residents, with the deadline for submissions set for 15th September 2024. Poets are encouraged to submit their work via email in PDF or image format to the address literary.coordinator@kala.org.uk, ensuring that the subject line reads “MALAYALAM POETRY COMPETITION.” Participants must include their name, age, and contact details in their submission.
Each poem should ideally reflect the beauty and culture of Kerala or any theme that resonates deeply with the Malayalam-speaking community. The competition seeks to draw out diverse poetic expressions that speak to the heart of the Malayalee diaspora in the UK.
Two outstanding entries will be selected as winners, and the successful poets will have the honour of receiving their awards from the esteemed poet and lyricist Vayalar Sarathchandra Varma at the KALA Annual Day event in London on 19th October 2024. The KALA Annual is renowned for bringing together artists, poets, and cultural enthusiasts from various backgrounds, and this year’s event promises to be a vibrant celebration of Malayalam heritage.
Nisha Ramkumar, the literary coordinator at KALA UK, expressed her excitement about the competition, stating, “We are thrilled to host this competition and look forward to receiving a wide range of poetic works from the Malayalam-speaking community across the UK.”
This event is not just a competition but a celebration of culture, creativity, and community. All aspiring poets are encouraged to participate and contribute to this rich literary tradition. Don’t miss this opportunity to have your voice heard and be part of a significant cultural event.
