The High Commission of India is once again gearing up to host its annual Independence Day celebration, popularly known as India Day, in collaboration with the vibrant Indian diaspora in the UK. This eagerly anticipated event, scheduled for Saturday, 24 August 2024, at the Navnat Centre in Hayes, UB3 1AR.

India Day has become a tradition, drawing thousands of attendees each year. Last year’s event saw over 15,000 enthusiastic participants enjoying the vibrant atmosphere. The day is marked by a multitude of stalls, each representing different Indian states and organizations. These stalls, entirely self-sponsored, showcase the art, culture, and culinary delights of their regions, offering a unique taste of India’s diversity.

The success of this event relies heavily on the generous support of the community. Contributions from participants and attendees are crucial in ensuring that this celebration continues to be a memorable experience for all. The organizers encourage everyone to join in, contribute, and make the day as vibrant as possible.

The event will commence at 10:30 AM with a flag-hoisting ceremony, symbolising India’s 78th year of independence. There will be cultural programs presented by various community organisations, including Malayalee Association of the UK (MAUK), until 4 PM. This year, the MAUK Women’s Forum will perform the traditional Thiruvathira dance, a highlight not to be missed. Additionally, the Malayalee Association of the UK (MAUK) will have a dedicated stall and exhibition, celebrating 50 years of their registration.

In addition to the cultural performances, attendees can explore an array of stalls offering free food samples that represent the culinary diversity of India’s states. This provides a wonderful opportunity for all to savor the flavors of India, from street food favourites to traditional dishes.

The event is free of charge and is expected to attract over 10,000 visitors. To facilitate easy access, attendees are encouraged to use public transport. The venue is conveniently located just a 15-minute walk from Hayes & Harlington Station, and a shuttle service will be available every 15 minutes between the station and the venue.

Join the High Commission of India, MAUK, and other Indian organisations in celebrating the spirit of India in the UK.
