Dr Elizabeth Menon Passed Away

A Gifted Writer, Dedicated Doctor and Passionate Champion of Malayalam Culture

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Dr Elizabeth Menon (76), a long-time resident of Wokingham, Berkshire, who passed away peacefully on 19 June 2026 following a short battle with breast cancer.

Dr Elizabeth Menon was a respected medical professional who devoted her career to Obstetrics, caring for countless women and families with compassion, dedication and professionalism. A graduate of the prestigious Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), Pune, India, she belonged to the E Batch and remained immensely proud of her alma mater throughout her life.

Born Omaloor, Kerala, Elizabeth carried her love for her homeland wherever she went. Although she spent nearly four decades in the United Kingdom, she remained deeply connected to India and proudly retained her Indian citizenship and passport. Her love for Kerala, its culture, language and people was evident in everything she did.

Beyond medicine, Elizabeth was blessed with exceptional literary talent. She was a Resident Editor and one of the most valued contributors to Kerala Link print editions for many years. Equally proficient in English and Malayalam, she enriched our publication with a remarkable collection of articles covering a wide range of subjects, from cinema and literature to social issues and personal reflections. Her writing was distinguished by meticulous research, elegant language and a unique ability to connect with readers.

Among her many passions, Malayalam cinema occupied a special place in her heart. She was an ardent admirer of the artists who shaped the industry and maintained friendships with several leading actors, directors, writers and musicians. She possessed an encyclopaedic knowledge of Malayalam films and frequently shared her insights through thoughtful and engaging articles. Her tribute to the legendary actor Sathyan, published in the July 2021 print edition of Kerala Link, remains one of her most memorable and cherished contributions. https://www.keralalink.co.uk/remembering-sathyan-by-dr-elizabeth-menon/

Despite facing illness with courage and dignity, Elizabeth’s passing leaves a void that will be deeply felt by all who knew her. She will be remembered not only as an accomplished doctor and gifted writer, but also as a warm friend, an engaging conversationalist and a proud daughter of Kerala.

She is survived by her beloved son, Rakesh Menon, together with her extended family, friends and countless admirers of her writing both in the United Kingdom and beyond.

The Kerala Link family mourns the loss of a valued colleague, contributor and friend. Her words, wisdom and passion for Malayalam culture will continue to inspire our readers for years to come. We extend our heartfelt condolences to her family and friends during this difficult time.

May her soul rest in eternal peace.
