Malayalee James Saviour’s Dream Realised with Ayurveda Centre in Andover

On a bright September morning, the quiet streets of Andover, a picturesque villages in Hampshire, came alive with the sounds of celebration, tradition, and anticipation. The occasion was no ordinary business opening – it was the inauguration of the Ayurveda Clinic & Wellness Centre, a space dedicated to one of the world’s oldest systems of healing.

At the heart of the venture is Ayroor-born Malayalee, James Saviour, who has worked tirelessly to bring Ayurveda and yoga into the local community. On Saturday, September 6, his vision became reality as Test Valley’s Mayor, Cllr Gordon Bailey, officially cut the ribbon before a delighted crowd.

The event was more than a ribbon-cutting ceremony. It was a moment of cultural and spiritual significance, marked by the lighting of the Nilavilakku, the traditional Kerala oil lamp, by Cllr Iris Andersen and Francis Lynn. Its flame, symbolising purity and prosperity, seemed to set the tone for what this centre hopes to become: a sanctuary of balance, healing, and renewal.

A Dream Realised

For James Saviour, the day was the fulfilment of a vision that had been many years in the making.

“I feel it absolutely incredible, like witnessing a long-term vision blossom into reality,” he said. “To finally open the doors is both humbling and exhilarating. For me, this is more than just a business; it is about creating a sanctuary of healing, balance, and renewal.”

James’s passion for Ayurveda stems from his Kerala roots, where this holistic system has been practised for millennia. His dream was to share its benefits with the wider community in Hampshire – and judging by the response from locals, the dream has struck a chord.

The centre had already gained attention before its launch, when it offered traditional Ayurvedic head massage therapy at Andover’s World Street Party in August. Visitors left both curious and impressed – a taste of what the new centre now promises in full measure.

Ancient Wisdom for Modern Life

Ayurveda, often described as the “science of life,” dates back more than 5,000 years. Though formally documented around 600 BC, its oral traditions stretch much further. The system is built on balancing the body’s three doshasVata (ether + air), Pitta (fire + water), and Kapha (earth + water) – to achieve physical health and mental harmony.

The Ayurveda Clinic & Wellness Centre offers a wide range of therapies: from detailed consultations and body constitution assessments to customised diet plans, massage therapies, and yoga sessions. All treatments aim to align with an individual’s unique needs rather than a one-size-fits-all model.

Meet the Doctor

Central to delivering this authentic care is Dr. Ashwani Sanjay, the centre’s Ayurvedic physician. With more than a decade of clinical experience, Dr. Ashwani blends empathy with expertise.

A graduate of the Ayurvedic Science and Research Centre, she has worked with patients in both India and the UK, supporting international clients with diverse health concerns. Her areas of specialisation include lifestyle-related disorders, body constitution (prakriti) assessments, and external therapies designed to restore balance and vitality.

“Every patient is unique,” Dr. Ashwani explains. “Ayurveda isn’t about treating symptoms alone – it’s about understanding the whole person, their constitution, their lifestyle, and helping them achieve long-term wellbeing.”

Her approach combines the rigour of traditional Ayurvedic texts with the sensitivity needed to adapt practices to modern life.

More Than a Clinic

The opening also marked the launch of the Ayurveda Yoga Centre, expanding the offering into mindfulness and movement practices that complement the therapies. Together, the two centres aim to provide Andover with a one-stop hub for holistic wellness.

James reflected on the community’s warm embrace of the initiative:

“What makes it truly special is the overwhelming response we have already received. People are not only embracing these ancient traditions but also sharing how transformed they feel after just a few sessions. I feel a profound sense of gratitude to everyone who has supported this journey.”
