India Rolls Out E-Arrival Card

Posted by

India will roll out a digital E-Arrival Card system from 1 October 2025, replacing the paper disembarkation card for most foreign nationals arriving in the country.

What Is Changing

  • From October, passengers will no longer need to fill in a physical arrival card on the flight or at the airport.

  • Instead, travellers must complete a digital form up to 72 hours before arrival via the official immigration portal.

  • Once submitted, a confirmation will be issued that can be presented at immigration along with the passport.

The Transition Period

Reports indicate that there will be a transition phase of up to six months, during which both paper and digital forms may be accepted. However, the exact cut-off date for discontinuing paper cards has not yet been formally announced.

Travellers are therefore advised to use the new digital E-Arrival Card wherever possible, but also be prepared in case paper forms are still in circulation at some airports during the early months.

Why It Matters

The E-Arrival Card will make entry into India faster and more efficient, reducing queues and paperwork at major airports. For the large Malayalee diaspora regularly travelling between India, the UK, Europe, the Gulf and beyond, this is expected to bring significant convenience — especially for families, senior citizens and frequent flyers.

Tips for Travellers

  • Complete the E-Arrival Card early, ideally before departure.

  • Save or print the confirmation for quick access at immigration.

  • Keep an eye on official updates in the months following October 2025.

  • During the transition period, be prepared to use either the digital or paper form depending on the airport.
