25 Years of Dedication: Christine Snow’s Inspiring Journey Supporting Kerala’s Most Vulnerable

Posted by

For a quarter of a century, Bath-based Christine Snow has been a quiet yet powerful force of change in the lives of underprivileged children in Kerala through her charity, Kerala Crafts. As she marks 25 years of dedicated service, it is a moment not just of reflection, but of deep gratitude for a journey that has touched countless lives.

Christine’s journey began in 2001 with her first visit to India, when she made her first visit to India. What started as a personal connection soon grew into a sustained and deeply committed effort to support girls’ orphanages, welfare centres, and individuals in need across southern India.

At the heart of this work is Kerala Crafts, the charity Christine established to channel support from the UK to meaningful projects in Kerala. Over the years, with the generosity of friends, family, and well-wishers, more than £250,000 has been raised, transforming lives through education, care, and opportunity.

Christine continues her work with the same passion and commitment. While Kerala Crafts stepped away from its retail arm nearly three years ago, its core mission remains very much alive. Today, the charity operates with a small but dedicated team of trustees, two in the UK and two in Kerala, ensuring that support reaches those who need it most.

Christine maintains a close association with Valsalya Bhavan and the Vimala Welfare Centre, with a particular focus on supporting the Pallavom students. As demand grows for safe and supportive accommodation for young women, efforts are now underway to expand facilities within the centre. One of the rooms is being converted to accommodate more residents, and support is currently sought for essential items such as chairs and materials -an initiative that reflects the evolving needs on the ground.

In her own words, Christine shared:

“I am carrying on as usual, but just wanted to mark our 25th anniversary and celebrate it. The sponsorship of the girls continues, as does supporting the Vimala Welfare Centre… This is such a worthwhile project, and I’m keen to carry on as long as I am able.”

Her humility and dedication remain the defining qualities of her work. For Christine, this journey has always been about making a difference – quietly, consistently, and compassionately.

As Kerala Crafts celebrates this 25-year milestone, it is also an opportunity to acknowledge the community that has stood behind it. Every contribution, every fundraising effort, and every act of support has played a part in building this remarkable legacy.
