St. George’s Indian Orthodox Church Brings UK Parishes Together for Cricket & Chess

Cricket, chess, and community spirit will come together this summer as St. George’s Indian Orthodox Church, City of London, hosts a UK-wide sports tournament on Monday, 25th August 2025 at Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club (RM2 6NP).

The day promises to be more than just sport — it’s a celebration of fellowship, teamwork, and the vibrant spirit of the Indian Orthodox community in the UK. With 11 cricket teams representing parishes from across the country and an exciting chess competition alongside, there’s something for everyone to cheer for.

From North to South, East to West, parishes are uniting on the field:

  • Hayes – St. Mary’s IOC
  • Chelmsford – St. Luke’s IOC
  • Colchester – St. Stephens IOC
  • Brockley – St. Gregorios IOC Cathedral
  • Crawley – Holy Trinity IOC
  • Canterbury – St. Gregorios IOC
  • Bedford – St. Nicholas IOC
  • City of London – St. George IOC
  • Oxford – St. Mary’s IOC
  • South Wales – Holy Innocents IOC Pilgrimage Church

A Day for Everyone

  • With cricket matches, chess competitions, and the buzz of friendly rivalry, the tournament is set to be a family day out filled with joy, food, and fellowship. Everyone is welcome to come, support their teams, and share in the excitement.
