Kerala News in Brief – Kerala Now Officially Becomes “Keralam”

Posted by

The state of Kerala has officially adopted “Keralam” for use in government documents and communications, aligning the state’s name with its original Malayalam form.

The move is seen as a cultural correction, as Keralam has always been the grammatically correct and traditional name in Malayalam, while Kerala came into wider use during the colonial period. Authorities have clarified that the change is symbolic, with no impact on administration or constitutional status, and that Kerala may continue to be used in English and international contexts.

Among the global Malayalee diaspora, including in the UK, the decision has been widely welcomed as a reaffirmation of linguistic identity and cultural pride.

Kerala Government Challenges Dileep Acquittal in High Court

The Kerala Government has approached the Kerala High Court, challenging a sessions court order that acquitted actor Dileep of all charges.

The state has sought judicial review of the acquittal, arguing that the verdict warrants re-examination. Further proceedings are expected once the High Court considers the government’s petition.

Legal Battle Over The Kerala Story 2

“The Kerala Story 2” is literally the biggest headline in Indian cinema right now. It just hit theaters yesterday, February 27, 2026, after a legal roller coaster.
While the first film was criticised (and praised) for its focus on Kerala, the sequel tries to live up to its subtitle, “Goes Beyond.” It follows the parallel lives of three women from different parts of India:
Surekha (Kochi): A young woman who falls for a journalist promising he won’t force her to convert.
Neha (Gwalior): An aspiring athlete lured by a man hiding his true identity.
Divya (Jodhpur): A dancer looking for freedom from her strict parents.

The narrative follows their marriages and the subsequent realisation that they’ve entered what the film portrays as “traps” involving forced religious conversion and radicalisation.
