The Labour Party’s National Conference has begun at the Liverpool ACC Arena, drawing attention across the UK and beyond. Taking place from September 28 to October 1, the four-day event comes at a crucial moment for Britain, with hot topics such as migration, national identity, and political stability dominating the debate.

Among the thousands of delegates and leaders, the Malayalee community is making a proud mark. Several Labour members of Kerala origin are taking part actively, not just as attendees but as contributors to discussions, committees, and networking events.

Leading the way is Sojan Joseph, the first Malayalee elected as a British MP. He is joined by:

  • Sajish Tom, Basingstoke Councillor

  • Dr Manju Shahul-Hameed, former Mayor of Croydon

  • Sugathan Thekkepura, former Newham Councillor

  • Priya Lal, Labour activist from Liverpool

  • Ajith Das, community leader from Finchley, North London

  • Jaya Mary Jose from Ipswich

For many in the diaspora, seeing Malayalees in such prominent roles at the Labour Conference is a matter of pride. Their presence reflects the growing influence of the community in British politics and the wider society.

Beyond the main speeches, including Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer’s much-anticipated address, the conference features over 100 fringe meetings, cultural exchanges, and international receptions—offering further opportunities for Malayalee representatives to connect, contribute, and showcase their leadership.

The active involvement of these community figures demonstrates how far the British Malayalee community has come, stepping into the political mainstream and ensuring its voice is heard at the highest levels.
