India Deploys MPs Including Shashi Tharoor for Global Anti-Terror Push Post-Pahalgam

In the wake of the deadly Pahalgam terror attack and subsequent Operation Sindoor, the Indian government is launching a major diplomatic push to rally international support for its tough stance on terrorism.

Seven all-party delegations, each made up of six to seven MPs from across the political spectrum, will be dispatched to key partner nations. Their mission: to convey India’s “zero tolerance” approach to terrorism and showcase a united national front following the attack that killed 26 people on 22 April.

The teams will be accompanied by senior diplomats, including former ambassadors and retired bureaucrats with expertise in specific regions, underlining the seriousness of India’s diplomatic offensive.

Among the most high-profile names:

Shashi Tharoor (Congress): The Thiruvananthapuram MP’s inclusion has raised eyebrows and triggered political sparring between the BJP and Congress. His reputation as a seasoned diplomat and former UN official makes him a notable choice.

Ravi Shankar Prasad (BJP): The former Union Law Minister and MP from Patna Sahib will lead a delegation visiting Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, and Algeria—strategic nations in West Asia and North Africa, with whom India has strong economic and security links.

The campaign is seen as both a diplomatic and domestic signal—projecting strength abroad while attempting to build political unity at home in response to cross-border terrorism. The inclusion of MPs from rival parties, including Congress, indicates the government’s effort to present a non-partisan image on national security.

Operation Sindoor, India’s military response to the Pahalgam attack, included strikes on terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir—moves that have drawn international attention and heightened tensions in the region.

With the delegations expected to engage with foreign governments, media, and think tanks, New Delhi hopes to reinforce its position that terrorism must be met with global solidarity, not silence.
