Bolton MP Shares Photos from the ‘Seva Day’ Event on X
In a heartwarming gesture, Bolton Council has extended its appreciation to the 22 volunteers of the Indian Overseas Congress (UK) – Kerala Chapter, Midlands Area, who took part in a street clean-up drive organised at Bolton Children’s Park on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti.
The initiative was held as part of the council’s “Love Bolton, Hate Litter” campaign, under the coordination of Gareth Pike, Volunteer Coordinator at the Council. Pike officially conveyed the Council’s appreciation through a letter recognising the IOC (UK) volunteers’ commitment to community service and environmental responsibility.
The volunteers, including several women and youth members, earned widespread praise from local residents and media representatives for their exemplary dedication to maintaining cleanliness and contributing to community wellbeing. Locals noted that the initiative reflected the values of civic duty and social responsibility — hallmarks of Gandhian philosophy — embodied through the efforts of an Indian organisation active in the UK.
Bolton South & Walkden MP Yasmin Qureshi inaugurated the ‘Seva Day’ event, which also included the ‘Sarvodaya Anti-Drug Campaign’. She later shared photographs from the event on her official social media account (X), commending the volunteers’ contribution. The MP also presented certificates of appreciation to the participants.
The programme was led by Shinu Clare Mathews, President of IOC (UK) – Kerala Chapter, and Romy Kuriakose, General Secretary. Key volunteers included Gibson Philip George, Arun Philipose, Philip Kochitty, Reena Romy, Ranjith Kumar K.V., Jacob Varghese, Frebin Francis, Baby Lukose, Sojan Jose, Robin Louis, Amal Mathew, Chinnu K.J., Pranad P.P., Joyesh Antony, Justin Jacob, Bindu Philip, Anagha Jose, Lovely P.D., Scania Robin, and Soby Kuruvilla.
The event stood as a shining example of how community-driven initiatives can inspire civic pride and strengthen cross-cultural bonds in the UK.
