Bristol is set to resonate with the timeless melodies of Kerala as SreeRaagam – Season 3 presents a special tribute marking Balachandra Menon’s 50 years in cinema, alongside a landmark short Kathakali presentation of the immortal songs of G. Devarajan. Blending music, classical arts and live orchestration, the festival will be held on Sunday, 1 March, from 3 to 7 pm in Bristol, bringing together artistes and audiences for an evening celebrating Kerala’s rich cultural legacy.

The festival is organised by Adwaita Arts, in association with the Hengrove Malayali Community, and will take place at The Theatre, St. Brendan’s Sixth Form College.

A major highlight of the evening will be a short Kathakali presentation that reimagines G. Devarajan’s unforgettable songs through classical dance and live orchestration. Presented by Kalamandalam Vijayakumar, the segment promises to be a rare and evocative fusion of Kerala’s classical performance traditions with its rich musical heritage.

The event will also mark a significant literary moment with the presentation of the first Adwaita Award to Babu Abraham for his acclaimed autobiographical work Kambili Kandathe Kalbharanikal, published by Mathrubhumi Books. In addition, the G. Devarajan Award will be presented to a selected Bristol-based singer, recognising local talent within the diaspora.

SreeRaagam – Season 3 offers a richly curated programme featuring:

  • Classical dance by Aparna Pavithran and the Narthaki Dance Academy

  • A violin concert by Shyam Balamurali, presenting timeless melodies from Hindi, Tamil and Malayalam traditions

  • Ghazal-inspired Malayalam film songs

  • A musical tribute celebrating Balachandra Menon and his 50 years in cinema

  • Live orchestra accompaniment throughout the evening

Beyond the stage, audiences can enjoy a vibrant cultural experience with a multilingual book exhibition (Malayalam, English and Tamil) by Bookshelf UK, an Indian fashion showcase, and an Indian food court.
