A powerful new play, Homecoming, will be staged on 7th September as part of the Sree Narayana Guru Jayanthi celebrations at the East Ham Centre, 16 Barking Road, E6 3BP.

Written by Ms. Sonya Arun, a youth member of the Sree Narayana Guru Mission of the UK, Homecoming is a poetic and deeply personal exploration of neurodiversity, generational identity, culture, and the search for self-realisation.

The story follows a 25-year-old creative young woman, caught in the pressures of corporate life, who yearns for meaning and authenticity. Set within a UK-based South Indian family, it reflects the struggles between tradition and truth, honour and peace, belonging and becoming. Ultimately, the play tells the inspiring story of one woman’s quiet revolution — her decision to break generational silence and embrace a spiritual calling, leading to her true homecoming.

Speaking about the play, Ms. Arun said, “Homecoming is a story close to my heart — it celebrates the courage to listen to one’s own voice and the journey of finding oneself amidst the expectations of family and society.”

With its rich cultural overtones and emotional depth, Homecoming offers audiences a moving reflection on identity, authenticity, and healing, making it a fitting tribute to the values of Sree Narayana Guru.
