Antony Mathew (61), a beloved and active member of the UK Malayalee community, passed away in London.
He was active in the Syro Malabar Church, various organisations, and in religious, social, artistic, and sports fields, dedicating his time and energy to the community throughout his life. At the time of his passing, Antony was serving as Bible Apostolate Coordinator, a member of the Pastoral Council, and choir coordinator in London, and was a member of the St Monica Mission family. Since 2005, he served as a member and secretary of the London Syro Malabar Church Coordination Committee, and was known for his deep commitment to the Church.
He was the son of the late Erathra Chacko Mathew and Aleyamma Mathew of Vettuthottunkal, Edathua, and was among the early Malayalee migrants to the UK. In Kerala, he was a member of Edathua St George Forane Parish.
He is survived by his wife, Dency Antony (of the Sramppickal family, Vaikom), and sons, Derick Antony and Alvin Antony. His siblings include Reesamma Cherian and Mariamma Antony. He was predeceased by his brothers George Mathew and Jose Mathew.
Antony’s warm, friendly nature and tireless service have left a lasting impact on all who knew him. His sudden passing has come as a great shock to his family, friends, and the wider Syro Malabar and Malayalee community in the UK, where he will be deeply missed.
